“When the tragedy of COVID 19 hit, as First Responder Healthcare Workers, my soon-to-be beloved husband and I, left our desires to help our sick community. We worked extra hours so we could be there to educate patients and family about this pandemic.During the peak of COVID, while I witnessed so many in despair, there was one similar theme we heard among our patients—cherishing memorable moments to ease the pain/ fear of this pandemic. We heard so many beautiful memories of how they met their soulmate, memories of walking down the aisle, and memories of starting a life together.
After delaying the wedding for three months, Bivin and I decided we could not delay becoming one any longer because we wanted to start making our own memories. There were a lot of sacrifices made that day but my mom did not let me compromise on my dream wedding outfit.
During lockdown, my mom, who never fails to disappoint, was able to work with the wonderful staff at Gaurav Gupta boutique in New Delhi to retrieve my customised wedding lehenga.
Because I am accustomed to getting allergic skin reactions to certain fabrics, I was very selective of my wedding outfit. I wanted something with embroidery and details that looks so elegant close up and shines even from afar. I wanted something comfortable that I was able to do Bhangra all night!
And specifically, I wanted something off the shoulder and I fell in love with the unique bowing design of the blouse.
I really felt like the most beautiful woman in the world that day, especially when I saw my husband’s smile when he first saw me. Now, I too now have memories I will cherish for a lifetime!”- Dr. Shelley Uppal
